Workshop FAQ

Are workshops for Theatre artists only?

Though many of our workshops will focus on theatre related topics, our Evening Workshop Series is cross-disciplinary in its scope and educational offerings. Ex. As many of our workshops will focus on matters related to Marketing, marketing professionals from various fields in marketing may wish to attend. Often, we will have leaders from our community speaking about various topics, leaders who have a wide appeal. We are confident that our Evening Workshop Series will appeal to a wide range of artists, entrepreneurs, business professionals and creative individuals.

How much do workshops cost?

Each workshop session is $15 per person. A workshop may span one hour, an hour and a half or even three hours. Regardless, each one will be a per class fee of only $15. We keep our workshop rates low, as we want ACPA to serve as a meeting place and an incubator for creative minded people and artists in our community. We try to make our workshop series as accessible as possible, as space allows.

How do I participate in workshops?

In the coming weeks, we will offer a Paypal pre-pay option. All courses require the purchasing of a workshop ticket, which is provided upon receipt of payment. One may purchase a one course card, a three course card or a ten course card. When you want to take a given workshop, you can simply show up and we will stamp your card. Attend as many workshops as you like and feel free to taste test our many offerings. Course space is on a first come, first serve basis. However, we do accept reservations.

How do I reserve a spot in a workshop?

If you would like to secure a place in a given workshop,  you can do so up to five days in advance of the date of the workshop. Just email your request to info@austinconservatory.com

Where are the workshops?

All of our evening workshops will take place at the ACPA campus at Penn Field in Austin, TX (SOCO).

3601 S. Congress Ave., D102. We are next door to

Ruta Maya.

What if I want to offer a course, intensive or workshop?

If you are a professional who would like to offer a course, please submit your request to info@austinconservatory.com. Note: We are always interested in interesting workshops. We cannot accommodate all requests, but we do our best. Do you have an idea that you would like to workshop in a class environment? Have a topic you believe will enhance artists’ abilities to make a living? Have a course topic you are passionate about? Let us hear your ideas.

What if I would like to suggest a workshop topic?

We seek to offer courses that are relevant, timely and of quality. We want artists in our community to feel that their educational needs are met at ACPA--whether through our flagship full-time conservatory program or on a smaller scale in our workshop series. If you have ideas for courses that are not presently offered, but is a course you would attend if offered, let us here about it. info@austinconservatory.com

A recent Success Story from one of our workshops:

Hey Jim,

Val here – I attended your “How to talk to actors” workshop and I had a good win this Saturday J

I was auditioning some folks for SAG’s Actor’s Conservatory’s Script to Screen, and one of the actors wasn’t quite delivering the goods, so I dug down in to the 5 questions you taught me, and told the guy to:

1.       Think of the effect he was trying to cause on the other character (need)

2.       Think what would happen if he didn’t get his way, story-wise (stakes)

And the guy dropped the script and his energy level came WAAAY up. It blew me away that I could so much improve what an actor was doing!

Thanks a lot… I can’t wait to get to rehearsals and see what else I can do with that data, AND, get on set with one of my scripts!
